standing still in Hong Kong

All the photographs in the Hong Kong series were taken over two weeks in August, 2006. I have photographed in Hong Kong several times previously but this time I chose to simply wander the city shooting from the viewpoint of a casual bystander. In the midst of this most energetic city it is wonderful to stop, stand still and take it all in. In doing that, I felt a deep sense of the past emanating from the buildings, the neighbourhoods and the people. These images and the manner in which they are processed are an attempt to reflect that feeling.

I couldn’t have taken these photographs without the help of my good friend Kitty Mok. Her knowledge of Hong Kong’s people, neighbourhoods and history were invaluable. Her enthusiasm for her city was infectious and her enjoyment of my work was a source of great strength.
